Let’s Jazz It Up!

Welcome back!  It’s Friday and almost the weekend.  Hoping you have some time to be creative…

Several challenges influenced the design of this card.  At Make My Monday (#224) the theme is International Jazz Day.  Did you know that Jazz is my favorite music genre?  Anyway, over at Global Design (#433) the theme is also music.  I have tied this into Park Hopping (May) with their Disney Studio Movie theme, as jazz music is often a score choice along with some jazzy colors from Color Throwdown (#791) for retro feel.

Bringing is all together, I selected to celebrate Stampin’ Up! Only (#350) on their 15th year by using the suggested sketch.

Here is the result:

LAYERING LEAVES – SHEET MUSIC – MMM224 – GDP433 – PH May 2024 – CTD791 – SUOC350

Steps:

  • Card Base: (8½” x 5½” scored at 4¼”) Basic Black cardstock.
  • Background Panel: (5¼” x 4”) Black Speckled patterned piece of paper from the now retired Rock & Roll Designer Series Paper pack.
    • The Music Score / Notes from the retired Sheet Music background stamp was added with Versamark ink and heat-set with White Embossing Powder.
  • Corner Accents: (5¼” x 4”) Square Block patterned piece of paper from the retired True Love Designer Series Paper pack.
    • The panel was double cut on the diagonal to create the open space as per the sketch design.
    • Six blocks were colored with Stampin’ Blends Markers to add a pop of color.  Colors chosen: Light Magenta Madness (retired), Light Summer Splash, and Light Smoky Slate.
  • Decoration – Guitars: Two Guitars were fussy-cut with Paper Snips from the Guitar patterned piece of paper, also from the Rock & Roll Designer Series paper pack.
    • Summer Splash and Magenta Madness coloring was added to the Scratch Plate.
  • Sentiment: Smoky Slate cardstock scrap.
    • The sentiment, So happy to celebrate you,  from the Layering Leaves stamp set, was stamped with Versamark and heat-set with Black Embossing Powder.
    • The greeting was then die-cut with the (1⅞” x 1⅞”) Stitched Square die from the Stylish Shapes Dies set.

All elements were adhered to the card base to resemble the sketch.  One Guitar was popped up with Dimensionals.

Turned out to be a fun card! Birthday, Congratulations, Graduation…

  1. Your card creation process sounds fantastic! The combination of Basic Black cardstock with the black speckled and square block patterned papers creates a sleek backdrop for the music-themed design. The addition of the heat-set white embossed Sheet Music background stamp and the fussy-cut guitars adds wonderful dimension and visual interest.
