Rest Ye, Merry Gentlemen – Tidings of Comfort & Joy

Hi!  Take a day off and the deadlines keep on rolling along…

I am creating for Facebook’s  Case-ing Tuesday (#436) selection found on page 36 of the Sep-Dec Mini Catalog for this week’s sketch.

My choices were influenced by TGIF (#448) to create for a favorite Holiday Song and Heart ‘s Quest (#43), who also has a music theme.  I selected the colors suggested by Color Hues (#76) for the rich red and gold look.  I have also created this card for the Stampin’ Up!’s November #Simple Stamping challenge which is to use just stamps, inks, paper and add a punch.

Here is the result:

CHRISTMAS CLASSICS – HEARTFELT HEXAGON – COUNTRY BOUQUET – CT436 – TGIFC448 – HQCB43 – TCH76 – SU! SIMPLE STAMPING November 2023

Steps:

  • Card Base: (8½” x 5½” scored at 4¼”) Basic White cardstock.
  • Card Front Panel: (4¼” x 5½”) Distressed Gold Specialty Designer Series Paper.
    • Tip: Use a die to cut-out the center of the panel for future use as it is covered by the Background Panel.
  • Background Panel: (3⅞” x 5⅛”) Red and Gold Music Sheet patterned piece of paper from the Joyful Specialty Designer Series Paper pack.
    • For Heart’s Quest required element, the small Two Heart image from the Country Bouquet stamp set was stamped with Versamark ink and heat-set with Gold Embossing Powder in the lower right corner.  This looks really nice but photographed a little dark in the corner shadow.
  • Vertical Strip: (1½” x 4”) Red / Gold / White Holly Berry patterned piece of paper also from the Joyful Specialty Designer Series paper pack.
  • Sentiment Shape – Hexagon: (2½” x 2½”) Cherry Cobbler cardstock scrap.  All images were also stamped with Versamark ink and heat-set with Gold Embossing Powder.
    • The sentiment, Tidings of Comfort & Joy, from the Christmas Classics stamp was chosen for one of my favorite Christmas Carols: God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.
    • The Double Dotted Hexagon Frame image from the new Heartfelt Hexagon stamp set was stamped around the sentiment.  This stamp set will be available in January 2024
    • The sentiment was then punched out with the coordinating Heartfelt Hexagon Punch.

All elements were adhered to the card base to resemble the sketch.  I chose to orient the Sentiment Label and Strip to the right side so the Treble Clefs would be seen on the patterned paper.  The Sentiment was popped up with Dimensionals.
