Swirls of Color – You’re Amazing

Welcome back!  It’s a dreary morning that just begs for some Sunshine and Rainbows.

A bunch of challenges tie nicely into this theme. Case-ing, or CASE (Copy and Selectively Edit) is a great way jump start a new creation. Two similar cards with vastly different treatments and color choices were used as inspiration today.

Time Out (#231) for colors, emboss resist and card case-ing; Crafter’s Café (#293) for colors; CAS on Friday (#250) for the ink splatter; and Global Design Project (#380) for case-ing the dimension and overall sketch layout.

Here is the result:

SWIRLY BIRD – GORGEOUS GRUNGE – COLOR & CONTOUR – TOC231 – COS250 – CCCB293 – GDP380

Steps:

  • Card Base: (8½” x 5½” scored at 4¼”) Basic White cardstock.
  • Background Panel: (5¼” x 4”) Daffodil Delight cardstock.
  • Focal Panel: (5⅛” x 3⅞”) Basic White cardstock.
    • Original Stamping:
    • Using Balmy Blue ink, the Ink Splatter image from the retired Gorgeous Grunge stamp set as stamped diagonally across the cardstock.
    • Using Versamark ink, the Open Swirl image from the retired Swirly Bird stamp set was stamped diagonally across the card front and over the previously stamped Splatter.
    • The Swirls were heat-set with White Embossing Powder.
    • Using the Solid Circle Shaped image, from the same stamp set, the Rainbow Colors were added:  Real Red, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, Granny Apple Green and Starry Sky.
    • Stop the Presses – we had an Oops!  I managed to smear both blue and orange ink with nowhere to hide it.
    • My fix?  After the ink was dry and the excess was removed from the white embossing, the Circle Swirls were fussy-cut with Paper Snips.
    • Secondary Stamping:
    • A new panel was cut and the Ink Splatter image from Gorgeous Grunge and the Ink Splatter image from Swirly Bird were stamped with Balmy Blue ink to ground the Swirls.
  • Sentiment Labels: Basic White cardstock.
    • Using the Real Red and Starry Sky Stampin’ Write Markers, color was applied directly to the sentiment, You’re Absolutely Amazing, from the Color & Contour stamp set.
    • The sentiment was trimmed into two pieces.

All elements were adhered to the card base to resemble the sketches and the Swirls and the partial Sentiment were popped up with Dimensionals

How much fun is this rainbow of colors.  Sure to brighten anyone’s day when they receive it!
