Happy Day! More time to play in the Studio…
Over at Retro Rubber (#186), this round is a sketch. I chose to flip it to the vertical position to better fit my “RETRO” retired stamp image from Big on Birthdays (circa 2017) and I played around with this week’s Global Design Project (#351) challenge to use a shape. I chose a Concave Hexagon, which I created by using the retired Stitched Nested Labels Dies.

Here is the result:

Steps:
- Card Base: (8½” x 5½” scored at 4¼”) Basic White cardstock.
- Rectangle Panel: (2” x 5¼”) Multi-Colored Striped Concave Hexagon patterned piece of paper from the retired Naturally Eclectic Designer Series Paper pack.
- Shape – Concave Hexagon: (5” x 2⅝”) Basic White cardstock die-cut with that same sized die from the retired Stitched Nested Label Dies set.
- To create the shape, the top of the original Hexagon was then die-cut again reducing the size to (4″ x 2⅝”).
- On a water-proof craft mat, I wet both sides to the Concave Hexagon with a water-filled Stampin’ Spritzer to avoid paper curling and added Rich Razzleberry ink to the Rectangle image from the Watercolor Shapes stamp set and stamped it three times, inking up the stamp each time.
- I then added more water to blend.
- Once dry, I added splotches with my craft toothbrush.
- Once completely dry, I added Versamark ink to the Birthday Greeting, from the retired Big on Birthdays stamp set (circa 2017), stamped and heat-set with White Embossing Powder.
- Rectangle Strips: (4” x ⅝”) Pool Party cardstock scrap and (3¾ x ⅝”) Pale Papaya cardstock scrap.
- The sentiments, Eat cake and It’s your day, also from Big on Birthdays was stamped with Night of Navy ink.
All of the elements were arranged to resemble the flipped sketch. A little bit of water coloring, a little bit of embossing powder, but still only, stamps, ink and paper. #SimpleStamping at its best!
A fun bright unisex birthday card.

Wow, Jolanda, love these fresh juicy colors! Beautiful big sentiment, too – great banner shape for it, and love the embossing over the color wash! This all sings together perfectly! Thanks so much for playing at Retro Rubber!
