Setting Sail – Follow Your Dreams

One of the cards I designed for a recent class was made with the Color Throw Down Challenge (#656) in mind.

Primary colors and a back-to-school theme.  Well, my card is for the student heading off to College or University.  Their adventure is just beginning…and that is an Occasion to celebrate!

Here is what I came up with:

SAILING HOME – CTD656 – WWC322

Steps:

  • The sentiment and the Sail Boat from the Sailing Home stamp set was stamped with Night of Navy ink onto a square of Basic White cardstock and then die-cut with the retired (2⅛”) square Stitched Shape Die.  Using a Blender Pen, some of the Night of Navy color was pulled into the Sail and the Boat for a bit of light water-coloring.
  • Introducing the challenge colors via cardstock, a Daffodil Delight Flag (¾” x 3¼”) was added behind, followed by another Stitched Shape Die Square (2⅝”) in Night of Navy, then a Cross Panel in Real Red (2” x 4¼”) and then a Balmy Blue Background Panel (3½” x 5½”) that was dry-embossed with the Bark 3D Embossing Folder.  The texture mimics water waves so it nicely compliments nautical themes.
  • To finish off the card, I chose a Basic White card base (8½” x 5½” scored at 4¼”) to keep everything looking crisp and shipshape.

A favorite quote of mine since I came across it when I was 16 is:

“No wind blows in favor of a ship that has no port of destination”

It was credited to Anonymous and has been my personal little mantra all these years since.  Granted the wind has died down sometimes but, it always blows again.  You just need to keep your dreams in focus and continue the journey!

Thanks for spending some of your time with me today.   Cheers,  Jolanda!
