Inspired Thoughts – At the Lake

The Global Design Project Challenge (#296) is to case a card created by Emma Goddard.  My inspiration for this C.A.S.E. (copy and selectively edit), was the photo presented by The Card Concept Challenge (#157).

Vacations at the Lake, a lazy day in the boat and a Hudson’s Bay Blanket to throw over your legs if it is a bit chilly when you start out…Do you have a favorite fishing spot?

Here is what I created:

INSPIRED THOUGHTS – BY THE DOCK – WATER FRONT – SNOW FRONT – GDP296 – TCC157

Steps:

  • Color Blocking: (1¼” x 1”) Shaded Spruce, Real Red, Crushed Curry and Night of Navy cardstock scraps and (1¼” x 5½”) Very Vanilla cardstock strip. Each of these pieces were “Sueded”.  This technique involves breaking down the fibers of the paper with a Bone Folder until you can separate the piece in two.  The inside texture looks like suede leather and is perfect to suggest the softness of the Hudson’s Bay Blanket.
  • Scene Panel: (3⅛” x 5⅛”) Very Vanilla cardstock.  I used a variety of stamp sets: By the Dock, Water Front and Snow Front (all retired) to create the scene.  Keeping the scene monochromatic, I used only the Crumb Cake color: Ink Pad, Stampin’ Write Marker and Stampin’ Blends
  • Accent Mat: (3¼” x 5¼”) Crumb Cake cardstock.
  • Sentiment Label: (1⅝” x ⅝”) Crumb Cake cardstock.  The partial sentiment, You Make a Difference, from the Inspired Thoughts stamp set was inked with the Early Espresso Stampin’ Write Marker.  Keeping with the Boating motif, I wrapped the ends of the sentiment label with Very Vanilla Baker’s Twine.

All of the elements were adhered to a Very Vanilla card base: (8½” x 5½” scored at 4¼”).  Color Blocking strips are a fantastic way to use up the scraps that accumulate as you create…

Enjoy your vacation…

  1. LOVE this, Jolanda! What a great sketch ( played along with it too!) and the neutral stamping of the lovely water scene is a perfect blend of all those stamp sets! It’s perfect! Thanks for playing along with us this week at The Card Concept!
