A Bird tells me “We’re the Best of Friends”

A sweet simple sketch from Freshly Made Sketches – FMS474. Keeping the sketch in the same orientation, I changed my layout to be horizontal as it worked really well to show off the patterned paper I selected for my card idea of blending current with new.

It always seems we focus on new products featured in the Mini Catalogs and/or the Sale-a-bration brochure and we tend to overlook the gems in the Annual Catalog.

I chose to keep this is a #SimpleStamping card.  Stamp, Paper and Ink.  A bit of colored twine was added on for a little embellishment.

For the new, I selected a piece of the lovely Sale-a-bration Flowers and Field Designer Series Paper.  The colors were picked out of the patterned paper:  So Saffron, Flirty Flamingo, Just Jade and Pool Party.

For the current, I selected the stamp set Free As A Bird.  The Birds on the Tree Branch image was stamped on to a scrap of Basic White cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and then trimmed (1½” x 2½”) so that only the two end birds became my focal point.

The image was colored with the coordinating Stampin’ Blends and the background was colored with Pool Party ink applied with a Blending Brush, giving just a hint of color.  The focal image was set upon a Basic White mat (1¾” x 2¾”).

The sentiment, We’re the Best of Friends, was stamped on to a small strip of So Saffron cardstock (⅜” x 2½”) and flagged with Paper Snips.

All the elements were assembled on to a Pool Party card base.

However, before adhering it all together, a little Wink of Stella Glitter was applied to the Flirty Flamingo flowers on both the patterned paper and the colored image.  And yet, I felt a little something more was needed.  That being said, I colored a bit of White Baker’s Twine (retired) with the Flirty Flamingo Stampin’ Blend and added it with a small knot to the bottom on my matted focal image.  This was just what was needed to complete the card!

Now I was ready to glue it all together.  Both the focal image and the sentiment banner were popped up to add dimension. The card came together nicely.  Don’t you agree?

Cheers,  Jolanda!
