Dragonfly Garden – Birthday

It is another Challenge Mash-Up day!

Global Design Project – GDP274 Sketch, The Paper Players – PP523 Color and The Spot – #145 Splish Splash Challenges.

This is what I created…

I started with a piece of Basic White – Thick card stock.  I stamped the sentiment, Happy Birthday, from the new Sweet Ice Cream stamp set in Versamark and Heat Set with Clear Embossing Powder.  Really liking the font in the Sweet Ice Cream stamp set!

To create the Ombre effect suggested by the GPD274 Sketch with the three colors from the PP523 color challenge, I used Blending Brushes, starting with Blackberry Bliss in the center working my way up and down. I then worked with the Bumble Bee from top to middle, overlapping and blending as I went and repeated the process with Misty Moonlight working from bottom to middle.  The new Blending Brushes create such a nice transition between the colors.

For The Spot Challenge #145 Splish Splash elements, I added water to a toothbrush and flicked the brush creating the spot splatter.  Additionally, I added a little bleach to a towelette, stamped the small Winged Things stamp from Dragonfly Garden on it and stamped the panel, in effect, lifting the color.

Once the panel was dry, the ink was buffed off of the sentiment.  I expected it to come out whiter than it did but I like the muted Blackberry Bliss tone.  For a whiter sentiment, I could have Heat Set and embossed the sentiment with White Embossing Powder after the color manipulation of the panel was complete.

For the Sketch’s banner / ribbon element, I chose to die-cut the Open Lattice strip from the Many Medallions Dies in Bumble Bee.  Prior to die-cutting, I dry embossed the Bumble Bee card stock twice in opposite directions with the Subtle 3D Embossing Folder.

After mulling the colors over regarding which one to use as the card base, I chose to go with Blackberry Bliss.  I then added a Basic White card stock piece as a mat for the colored panel.

To complete the card, I punched out a couple of the Dragonflies from the Dandy Garden Designer Series Paper with the Dragonfly Punch, trimming some of the white space with a bit of fussy cutting and popped them with up to create some dimension.

All in all, a very nice card. Is your birthday coming up? Would you like me to send you this card? First request in, will receive this card. Like my blog and send me your address.

  1. Absolutely stunning, Jolanda! The background you created is beautiful. The water spots and the bleached stamped butterflies are wonderful details. I am so glad you joined in my color challenge at The Paper Players this week!
