Beautiful Butterflies – Birthday Card

Time again for the Hand Stamped Sentiments (#489) Design Team Challenge.  This round, we have a Mood Board with lots of options.  I chose to go with the Butterflies and the Tropical Coloring.

I am sharing this card with Moving Along With The Times (#189) and their Butterfly theme and Facebook’s SU! Colour (#2605) Palette.

I opted for a clean and simple card, choosing the AAA Cards (#315) Sketch to bring my ideas together.

Here is the result:

BEAUTIFUL BUTTERFLIES BUNDLE – HSSIC489 – MAWTT189 – SUCC2605 – AAACC315

Steps:

  • Card Base: (8½” x 5½” scored at 4¼”) Basic Black cardstock.
  • Background Panel: (4” x 5¼”) Basic White cardstock.
    • The sentiment, Happy Birthday, from the retired Beautiful Butterflies Bundle Stamp Set, was stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink.
  • Shapes – Butterflies: (4¼” x 5½”) Basic White card stock cut at (1½”).
    • Using the Beautiful Butterflies Embossing Folder and the (4¼” x 4”) piece of cardstock, the larger Butterfly was embossed / debossed.
    • Color was added to the debossed Butterfly with Stampin’ Blends Markers.  Colors chosen: Pumpkin Pie, Highland Heather, Strawberry Slush and Daffodil Delight for the Wings and Smoky Slate for the Body.
    • Memento Tuxedo Black ink was dragged across the image to catch the high points and define the Butterfly.
    • The Butterfly was then die-cut with the coordinating Butterfly die from the Beautiful Butterflies Dies set.
    • Two additional Butterflies were stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink, colored with Stampin’ Blends Markers and die-cut with the coordinating dies from the (4¼” x 1½”) Basic White cardstock piece.

The Butterflies were adhered in place with the two smaller Butterflies popped up with DimensionalsWink of Stella Glitter was added to the Wings for a bit of sparkle.  Very pretty but hard to see in the photograph.

A nice clean and simple birthday card.  I wanted to play with the Debossing Technique.  Perhaps next time, I might choose to just stamp the large Butterfly and color it for sharper or cleaner image.  However, what is the fun in that when you want to experiment.

I look forward to seeing how you are inspired by the Hand Stamped Sentiments Mood Board this round.

Thanks for spending some of your time with me today.  Cheers,  Jolanda!
