Memorable Meadows – Beautiful Birthday

Welcome back!  The watercolor brushes were still on the table…

Another clean and simple challenge: Addicted to CAS (#254) with the key word: Bloom.  I chose to see if I could beat the clock for the As You See It (#319) speed challenge with a Floral theme.

I picked the bottom row of colors suggested by the Color Dare (#592) Tic Tac Toe board and the current Global Design (#438) sketch as it suited a clean and simple style that I could complete quickly by water-coloring.

I assembled all of my materials.  The Ink Pads, the Stamping Blocks, the Card Base, the Watercolor Paper, a Chop Stick, Masking Fluid, Water Painter Brushes, Paper Towel, a Glass of Water, Stamp mounted on Block, and a Heat Tool to hurry things along.

Then I set the timer. Ten minutes and counting…

Here is the result:

MEMORABLE MEADOWS – MARCH 2024 PAPER PUMPKIN KIT – ATCAS254 – AYSI319 – CD592 – GDP438

Steps:

  • Card Base: (8½” x 5½” scored at 4¼”) Bubble Bath cardstock.
  • Focal Panel: (4⅛” x 5⅜”) Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper.
    • The Floral image from the current March 2024 Paper Pumpkin Kit – Memorable Meadows was stamped with Stazon Jet Black ink.  The image came out spotty and gray, but I had to go with it!
    • Using a Chopstick, I spread the Masking Fluid over the Flower Petals and zapped it with the Heat Tool.
    • A Stamping Block was pressed into the retired Bermuda Bay Ink Pad (for Journey) and color was picked up with the Wide-Tipped Water Painter Brush and swiped along the bottom of the panel.
    • Another Stamping Block was pressed into the retired Soft Succulent Ink Pad (for Mist) and color was picked up with the cleaned (water glass and paper towel) Wide-Tipped Water Painter Brush and added over the stamped Flower image for the vertical block and zapped with the Heat Tool.
    • Using the Fine-Tipped Water Painter Brush, more intense Bermuda Bay color was picked up and added to the Leaves.  The Paint Brush was also flicked to add the Bermuda Bay splatter.
    • Another zap with the Heat Tool.
    • The Masking Fluid was rubbed off of the Flower Petals.
    • Using the both the Medium-Tipped Water Painter Brush and a cleaned Fine-Tipped Water Painter Brush, Bubble Bath ink (for Mulberry) was applied to the Petals.
    • A dash of Soft Succulent ink was added to the Flower centers.
    • One last zap with the Heat Tool and the sentiment was added with Bermuda Bay ink.
    • The painting was adhered to the card base and I hit the stop button.

So how do you think I did?

I really can’t believe I did it…I love that water-coloring in a loose style can be so forgiving, especially if you just let yourself have fun.

  1. That loose watercolouring is a great ground for your inky bloom. Nice combination of challenges too. Isn’t it amazing what you can achieve in less than ten minutes – but I’m glad clean-up isn’t included! Thanks for sharing with us again at As You See It.

  3. Beautiful Jolanda – a great idea to use watercolouring for our challenge, as you say it can be very forgiving and perhaps the time pressure actually adds to the fluidity of the design. A great speedy make for our challenge over at As You See It Challenge!

  4. I second queenbee’s comment about the cleverness on using watercoloring for the sketch parameters. Very pretty card. Thank you for sharing at Color Dare.
