Warm Winter Wishes Post

Welcome back!  Project Number 2 for Double Trouble as a Guest Designer for January.

This Crazy Cousin is bringing you a nostalgic Winter Sports themed card using some favorite retired products for the Double Trouble (#157) challenge.

This round, the play partner in crime is Farm Quest (#44) and I selected the Sketch Saturday (#742) Layout to bring it all together.

Here is the result:

WINTER POST – WINTER WISHES – DT157 – FQCB44 – SS742

Steps:

  • Card Base: (8½” x 5½” scored at 4¼”) Misty Moonlight cardstock.
  • Background Panel: (5¼” x 4″) Crumb Cake cardstock dry-embossed with the Snowflake Sky 3D Embossing Folder.
  • Large Rectangle: (2¾” x 3½”) Mossy Meadow cardstock dry-embossed with the retired Evergreen Forest 3D Embossing Folder.
  • Small Rectangle: (1¼” x 3”) Misty Moonlight patterned piece of paper found in my scrap bin.  (I think it is a piece cut from a SU! Brochure I once received).
  • Accent Strips: (2½” x 1”) Pecan Pie cardstock scraps dry-embossed with the retired Subtle 3D Embossing Folder.
  • Focal Panel: (3¼” x 2”) Very Vanilla cardstock.
    • The Skating Couple image from the retired Winter Post stamp set was stamped with Early Espresso ink.
    • The split sentiment, Warm Wishes, from the retired Winter Wishes stamp set was stamped with Pecan Pie ink with the aid of the Stamp-a-ma-jig Positioning Tool.
    • The Skating Couple was colored using the Fine-Tipped Water Painter Brush picking up ink from the Ink Pad Lids.  Colors selected: Lady’s Outfit – Mossy Meadow ink; Gentleman’s Sweater – Crumb Cake ink; Gentleman’s Pants, Scarf & Hat – Pecan Pie ink.
    • A liberal dose of Clear Wink of Stella® Glitter was added below the Skaters to suggest Ice and a bit was added to the Lady’s Hat and Sweater Cuffs.
    • Using a Sponge Dauber, a bit of Crumb Cake ink was added to the edges of the Panel for some old-fashioned charm.

All elements were adhered to the card base to resemble the sketch and the Focal Panel was popped up with Dimensionals

And there we have a seasonal nostalgic winter card incorporating a winter sport – skating and lovely outfits including hats.

Thanks for spending some more of your time with me today.   Cheers,  Jolanda!

  1. Jolanda: your interpretation of the collaboration gives me a warm cozy woodsy vibe with the choices of colors! And I love how you’ve embossed trees onto the green backdrop panel and have the snowflakes with dots on the background! Plus the vintage appearance of the image just adds to the country feel of stepping back to another time! Lovely card! Thanks for being a GT addition at DTCB and taking part in the collaboration with FQCB! (And don’t forget to share at FarmQuest General Store and also FarmQuest Country Christmas!) –Becca

  2. Jolanda, I thought I left a comment but apparently I did not. What a great card! I imagine this is what my grandparents would have looked like in their day. Using the blocks of color for texture and layering truly adds to the vintage vibe. Lovely! – Thank you for joining us as our Crazy Cousin for January 2024 and thank you for playing along with us at Double Trouble. – Melanie R.

  3. I love that image, has such an old fashioned, country feel, makes me think of my grandma’s farm where we would wait for the pond to freeze so we could walk on it. Love the color palette too, great card! Thanks for joining us this month at Double Trouble as our Crazy Cousin!

  4. I love different textures you used on the background pieces of your card. Combined with the perfect color combination for this stamp with a nostalgic feel. Thank you for sharing with us at Sketch Saturday!
