Tuesday! Design Team Challenges for Hand Stamped Sentiments (#413) – Sketch and Cardz 4 Guyz (#321) – Get Messy. I chose the colors from As You See It (#297) and a watercolor technique that Linda Dalke, another Demonstrator played with.

Here is the result:

Steps:
- Card Base: (8½” x 5½” scored at 4¼”) Gorgeous Grape cardstock.
- Background Panel: (4” x 5¼”) Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper.
- With Painter’s Tape, I affixed the (5” x 7”) piece of paper to a Silicone Mat.
- Using four Multipurpose Liquid Glue Bottles and the Gorgeous Grape, Coastal Cabana, Parakeet Party and Daffodil Delight ink Pads, the rectangular shape from the bottle bottoms were inked and stamped onto the paper.
- Using the Medium-Tipped Water Painter Brush, water was added into each rectangle to draw out the color. Each color was done separately, in turn.
- Additional color was added by picking up the ink with the brush from a stamping block that had been pressed into the ink pad.
- Using a Heat Tool, I sped up the drying process between color application.
- A Stampin’ Spritzer was filled with water and then sprayed over the dried paint to allowing the colors to spread and mingle.
- Once dry, the panel was trimmed.
- Accent Strips: (3½” x ¼”) and (2⅝” x ¼”) Coastal Cabana and So Saffron cardstock scraps.
- Diamond Square Accent Mat: (2¾” x 2¾”) Gorgeous Grape cardstock.
- Diamond Square Focal Panel: (2⅝” x 2⅝”) Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper.
- The Sun and Wave image from the Circle Sayings stamp set was stamped with waterproof Stazon Black ink.
- The image was also water-colored using the Fine-Tipped Water Painter Brush with Daffodil Delight and Coastal Cabana inks.
- Sentiment Banner: (2⅝” x ½”) Parakeet Party cardstock scrap.
- The sentiment, You are amazing beyond measure, from the Season of Chic stamp set was stamped with Gorgeous Grape ink.
- The sentiment was die-cut with one of the Stitched Banner dies from the Stylish Shapes Dies set.
All elements were adhered to the card base to resemble the sketch.
Getting Messy with water and inks and creating your own patterned paper background is a lot of fun. I love playing with water as the drying of the inks is generally unpredictable and often quite striking. I opted to use Daffodil Delight ink instead of So Saffron because I wanted the yellow color to be represented as it was lightened by the amount of water used.
A very colorful card suitable for a fellow who is beyond amazing.
