Ringed with Nature – Friends

Welcome to both the Hand Stamped Sentiments Challenge (#398) and the Cardz 4 Guyz Challenge (#305) launching today!

This week, I am combing both of my team challenges.  We have a great Sketch over at Hand Stamped Sentiments and a great Technique, Distressing, just perfect for Guy cards at Cardz 4 Guyz.

Let the fun begin!  Here is the result:

RINGED WITH NATURE BUNDLE – COTTAGE ROSE – RUSTIC HARVEST DSP – HSSSC398 – C4G305

Steps:

  • Card Base: (8½” x 5½” scored at 4¼”) Crumb Cake cardstock.
    • The card front was dry-embossed with the Timber 3D Embossing Folder.
    • The wood texture and the card front edges were distressed by adding Crumb Cake ink over the texture and around the edges with a Sponge Dauber.
  • Background Panel: (3” x 4¼”) Cajun Craze Dotted Striped patterned piece of paper from the Rustic Harvest Designer Series Paper pack.
    • The right edge was torn and the entire piece was crumpled into a ball and somewhat smoothed out for another distressed effect.
  • Focal Image(s) – Wood-Cut Rings: (6” x 6”) Kraft paper.
    • Using the Tree Rings Dies and the Tree Rings Hybrid Embossing Folder, the Wood-Cut Rings were created.
    • I chose three.
    • On the largest Ring, I stamped the House image from the Ringed with Nature stamp set.  The House with Cajun Craze ink and the Roof with Soft Suede ink.
    • Additionally, I used the Early Espresso Stampin’ Write Marker to fill-in the Window and Door details on the House.
    • The wood texture and the edges of the Wood-Cut Rings were colored with Crumb Cake ink using the Sponge Dauber.
  • Foliage Accents – Leaves: Cajun Craze, Garden Green and Mossy Meadow cardstock scraps.
    • Using the Leaf dies also in the Tree Rings Dies set, the accent pieces were cut.
  • Sentiment Label: (2½” x ⅝”) Early Espresso cardstock scrap.
    • The truncated sentiment, Friends, from the Cottage Rose stamp set was stamped with Versamark ink and heat-set with White Embossing Powder.
    • The label was distressed with the Paper Snips Scissor edge and the corners were distressed with a Bone Folder and separated.

With all the pieces complete, the elements were adhered to the card base to resemble the sketch.  The principal circle shape, the popped up Wood-Cut Ring is flanked by two additional Wood-Cut Rings and the Leaves are tucked in for contrast. The idea for the stamped House on the Wood-Cut Ring came from a sample in the July – December Mini Catalog found on page 12.

I love that we can find inspiration in many places.  Hope you like this distressed styled guy card.
