Simply Succulents – Thanks, Friend

The Weekend Challenge – Theme: House Plants.  What better stamp set to choose than Simply Succulents!

In addition to my challenge, I chose the layout from Freshly Made Sketches – FMS468 and the colors from the current Colour INKspiration – CI92 palette.

Here is what I created:

I picked Crumb Cake as my neutral and stamped the large succulents image in Soft Suede ink.  Using a selection of Watercolor Pencils, I colored the succulents.  The colors:  Garden Green, Daffodil Delight, Calypso Coral, Melon Mambo (for Magenta Madness), Cherry Cobbler (for Merry Merlot) and a bit of Coastal Cabana for depth shadowing.

Following the layout, I added an additional mat in Garden Green which was dry embossed with the Subtle 3D Embossing Folder to the Crumb Cake card base.  The vertical Merry Merlot panel was dry embossed with the Tasteful Textiles 3D Embossing Folder.  Side note:  I had already adhered this piece before I realized it was meant to be flush with the top of the card.  Oh well, still looks good!

I thought the succulents would look nicer fussy cut and popped up against the Merry Merlot panel and so that is what I did.  I added the sentiment, Thanks, Friend, from the Wrapped Bouquet stamp set to the plant pot which was stamped on to Calypso Coral with Merry Merlot ink and shaded with the Cherry Cobbler Watercolor Pencil before fussy cutting.  I did add a little texture by dry embossing the pot with the Subtle 3D Embossing Folder.

A soft and subtle use of the bright colors to create this card.  If only the Succulents in my home looked as healthy…
