This week at Just Add Ink (#769), we are given a choice. Pick Two: I selected Numbers & Neutrals.

That is pretty wide open…so the following challenges influenced my design decisions:
Style & Colors – CAS Colours & Sketches (#569) for a clean and simple card; TGIF (#542) for the Sketch; Addicted to Stamps & More (#501) to use Coloring Tools; and Make My Monday (#260) to have fun with Stencils.

I hope my card inspires you and I look forward to seeing what you create with either words, numbers and/or neutral colors.
Here is the result:

Steps:
- Card Base: (8½” x 5½” scored at 4¼”) Pecan Pie cardstock.
- Card Front: (4¼” x 5½”) Very Vanilla cardstock.
- Stencil / Mask: (4¼” x 5½”) Copy Paper die-cut with the (1⅞” x 1⅞”) Stitched Rectangle Square die from the Stylish Shapes Dies set.
- The Very Vanilla cardstock was adhered to my work surface with low-tack adhesive, and the Stencil was centered over it with low-tack tape.
- Using a Blending Brush, Pecan Pie ink was added to the Tilted Square opening.
- With the Stencil still in place, the Plaid Pattern was created with Stampin’ Blends Markers and a Ruler. Colors chosen: Light Pecan Pie, Mossy Meadow and Secret Sea.
- The Stencil was removed, and the Tilted Plaid Square was outlined with the Light Secret Sea marker.
- The Stencil was shifted left and right by (⅜”) and the resultant Die Cut-Square piece was used as a Mask to cover the Plaid Square. Mossy Meadow ink was added with another Blending Brush.
- Both Stencil and Mask were removed, and the Mossy Meadow Squares were outlined with the Light Mossy Meadow marker.
- The Card Front was then trimmed to (4” x 5¼”).
- Sentiment Banner: (4” x 1”) Secret Sea cardstock scrap.
- The greeting, Happy Birthday, from the Simply Said stamp set was stamped with Versamark ink and heat-set with White Embossing Powder.
- The Banner was trimmed to (3⅜” x ⅝”) and hand-notched with Paper Snips.
- Numbers: Secret Sea cardstock scrap.
- The Numbers 6 and 0, from the Alphabet A La Mode Dies set were then die-cut.
All elements were adhered to the card base to resemble the sketch. The Banner was popped up with Dimensionals and the Numbers were added.
A nice guy card with visual interest but kept clean and simple.

Love how the tilted plaid square adds such a dynamic touch while keeping the design clean and masculine. The layering of stencils and color choices really elevate the card—Secret Sea and Mossy Meadow are a perfect combo. Beautiful execution and great use of the challenges. I’m so glad you visited my blog and left a comment—it led me here to your lovely space! I hope you’ll stop by again sometime.
