Beautiful Butterflies – On My Mind

Hi again!  I have a lovely card for you this afternoon inspired by Kim McGillis

Over at Facebook’s Stampin’ Through The Catalog yesterday, Kim, a Stampin’ Up! Artisan, was featured, and we are invited to CASE (Copy and Selectively Edit) her card.

There was so much to like…White on White, Texture, Framing, Blending…

My creative choices were influenced by: Can You Handle The Pressure (#25JUN14) with a Butterfly Twist; Alphabet (Letter E) for Embossing; Retro Rubber (#257) Tic Tac Toe Board Bottom Line – Spritzing/Watercolor/Die Cuts (but I forgot to use an old stamp set, so will create again another day); and Facebook’s Global Design Project (#501) Color Palette.

Here is the result:

BEAUTIFUL BUTTERFLIES BUNDLE – BEAUTIFUL MOTIFS – STTC – CYHTP25JUN14 – ACB Letter E 2025 – GDP501

Steps:

  • Card Base: (8½” x 5½” scored at 4¼”) Basic White cardstock.
  • Background Panel: (4⅛” x 5⅜”) Basic White cardstock dry-embossed with the Exposed Brick 3D Embossing Folder and watercolor washed in the top left and bottom right corners with Lost Lagoon ink applied with a Wide-Tipped Craft Paint Brush.
  • Arch Frame and Inset: (4¼” x 5½”) Basic White cardstock die-cut with two of the Arch dies from the Everyday Arches Dies set, an On-Line Exclusive product.  Die Sizes: (3⅝” x 4⅞”) and (3¼” x 4½”).
    • Using a Blending Brush, Petal Pink ink was added to the top area of the Arch Inset and then the Inset was also dry-embossed with the Exposed Brick 3D Embossing Folder.
  • Focal Image – Butterfly: (4¼” x 3½”) Basic White cardstock.
    • Using Blending Brushes, both Petal Pink (center) and Timid Tiger (Edges) inks were added to the Panel.  The large Butterfly image from the Beautiful Butterflies stamp set, also an On-line Exclusive product, was stamped with Lost Lagoon ink.
    • Using a Craft Tooth Brush, water was splattered/spritzed over the image.  Once dry, the Butterfly was over-stamped again to darken the veining of the Butterfly.
    • The Butterfly was then die-cut with the coordinating die from the Beautiful Butterflies Dies set.
  • Decoration – Leaves: (3½” x 3½”) Basic White cardstock.
    • Again, using a Blending Brush, Lost Lagoon ink was applied to the Panel and two Leafy Fronds were die-cut using the Leaf die from the Thankful Garden Dies set, another On-Line Exclusive product.
  • Sentiment Circle: Basic White cardstock scrap.
    • The sentiment, You’ve been on my mind, from the Beautiful Motifs stamp set was stamped with Versamark ink and heat-set with Black Embossing Powder and then die-cut with the (1¼”) Stitched Circle die from the Stylish Shapes Dies set.
    • Using a Sponge Dauber, Timid Tiger ink was added to the edge of the Sentiment Circle.

All elements were adhered to the card base to loosely resemble Kim’s original layout.

I love being inspired and I hope I did Kim’s card justice…

  1. Wonderful card, the shading and splattering on the butterfly looks so good, and love all that texture on the background. Thanks for joining us at Can You Handle the Pressure and at the Alphabet Challenge!
