Thoughtful Expressions – Birthday

Happy Friday!  How did that happen?  Hoping that you will have a chance to be creative this coming weekend.

Having fun CASE-Ing Jay Soriano’ s card for the Facebook Global Design Project (#488) challenge.

My design choices were influenced by the Double D (#031925) Bird theme and Seize The Birthday (#301) Birthday and Anything That Flies themes.

I am sharing this card with Addicted To Stramps and More (#488) for their Birthday theme and Tic Tac Toe (#266) for selecting the two possible line combinations – Bright Colors, Spring and Free with Flowers, Spring and adding Dimension.

Here is the result:

THOUGHTFUL EXPRESSIONS – FRIENDS FOR LIFE – GDP488 – DD031925 – STB301 – ATSAM488 – TTTC266

Steps:

  • Card Base: (8½” x 5½” scored at 4¼”) Basic Gray cardstock.
  • Background Panel: (4¼” x 3¾”) Gray Wood patterned piece of paper from the Country Woods Designer Series Paper pack.
  • Accent Strip: (4¼” x 1”) Pumpkin Pie Ombre piece of patterned paper from the Full of Life Designer Series Paper pack.
    • The sentiment, Happy Birthday, from the Friends for Life stamp set was stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink.
  • Focal Images – Hummingbird and Flowers: Basic White cardstock scraps.
    • The Bird and Flower images from the Thoughtful Expressions stamp set were also stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink.
    • Using Stampin’ Blends Markers, the images were colored.  Colors chosen: Hummingbird – Light Smoky Slate, Pretty Peacock, Misty Moonlight and Pumpkin Pie; Flowers – Light Pumpkin Pie and Calypso Coral; and Leaves – Light and Dark Pool Party.
    • In my stash, I have LuminArte Twinkling H20 Paint Pots.  These are paints spiked with a wonderful shimmer.  I selected a variety of complimentary colors and did a bit of water coloring.
    • Once dry, I also added a liberal application of Wink of Stella Glitter.  It is hard to see in the photo how lovely the Bird and Flowers sparkle.
    • The Bird and the Flowers were fussy-cut with Paper Snips.

All elements were adhered to the card base to resemble Jay’s original card, which I flipped to the vertical position. The Bird and most of the Flowers were popped up with Dimensionals.

Have the hummingbirds arrived in your area yet?  We are in the migration path but I haven’t seen ours yet.

Thanks for spending some of your time with me today.  Cheers,  Jolanda!

  1. What an absolutely beautiful card! Your colors are warm and lovely with the woodgrain, and the balance is perfect. It’s so good to see your card at both Seize the Birthday and Double D. Thank you for sharing!

  2. Jolanda, this is one of my favorite cards in the gallery at Seize the Birthday. Love the richness of the colors and your choice of papers gives a look of texture without the bulk. The Hummingbird looks wonderful. Thanks for playing at Seize the Birthday and for using the Topping.

  3. Fabulous creation! Love your pretty hummingbird and your beautiful florals, especially against that worn wood background–like and old garden fence! Love it! Thanks so much for playing along with us at The Double D, Birds Challenge. Donna, DT Member.
