Adorable Owls – So Cute

I have the pleasure of being asked to be a Guest Designer with Farm Quest this month.  This time around the theme is Nocturnal Animals (#69).  My choice?  I chose an Owl.

An Owl fits in nicely with As You See It (#342) for Birds and Alphabet (Letter W) for Wings.

I picked the Color Dare (#640) Palette of Brown Shades (Early Espresso, Pecan Pie and Crumb Cake) with the additional color of Green (Garden Green and Granny Apple Green) to bring my idea together.

Here is the result:

ADORABLE OWLS – FQCB69 – AYSI342 – ACB Letter W – CD640

Steps:

  • Card Base: (8½” x 5½” scored at 4¼”) Crumb Cake cardstock.
  • Under Accent Panel: (3¾” x 5”) Pecan Pie cardstock dry-embossed with Timber 3D Embossing Folder.
  • Background Panel: (4¼” x 5½”) Early Espresso cardstock.
    • Stampin’ Craft White ink was dragged across the inside back side of the Timber 3D Embossing Folder prior to dry-embossing the Panel which created the highlighting of the timber texture.
    • The Panel was then die-cut with the Circular Leaf die from the retired Natural Prints Dies set.
    • Only the Center Opening part of the die-cut was removed leaving the Leafy part intact
  • Owl Nest Camouflage: (4¼” x 4¼”) Garden Green and Granny Apple Green cardstock both die-cut with the same Circular Leaf die.
  • Focal Image – Owl: (2” x 2”) Crumb Cake cardstock scrap.
    • The Flying Owl image from the retired Adorable Owls stamp set was stamped with Early Espresso ink and colored with Stampin’ Blends Markers.  Colors chosen: Beak/Feet – Dark Daffodil Delight; Full Body – Light Pecan Pie; Body Accents/ Eyes – Dark Pecan Pie; and Pupils – Light Basic Black.
    • Highlights were added with the Basic White Watercolor Pencil.
    • The Owl was then fussy-cut with Paper Snips.
  • Sentiment Banner: (2½” x 1”) Crumb Cake cardstock scrap.
    • The sentiment, HOOT! HOOT! You’re So cute, from the same stamp set was stamped with Early Espresso ink and die-cut with the (2¼” x ⅞”) Stitched Banner die from the Stylish Shapes Dies set.

All elements were adhered to the card base completing the card and the Owl was popped up with Dimensionals.

A sweet little card suitable for a child or to send someone special for a little smile.

  2. Jolanda, you’re great at combining challenges. This combination has resulted in a great fun card. I like woodgrain embossing makes him look like he’s in a tree, while the bright pops of green keep the design fresh. Thanks for sharing it with us at As You See It Challenge.
