Secret Garden – You Make Me Smile

Welcome back!  Florals for a Saturday pick-me-up.

Playing with Color Throwdown (#835), selecting a coordinating Floral patterned piece of paper for Beautiful Blossoms (#25) Anything Goes and As You See It (#340) Crafting Resolutions to cut into Pretty Papers and bringing it all together with the Freshly Made (#670) Sketch.

Here is the result:

HAPPY HIBISCUS – SECRET GARDEN – CTD825 – BBC025 – AYSI340 – FMS670

Steps:

  • Card Base: (8½” x 5½” scored at 4¼”) Boho Blue cardstock.
  • Accent Mat: (3⅝” x 4⅞”) Basic White cardstock.
  • Focal Panel: (3½” x 4¾”) Blue Floral patterned paper from the retired Close To My Heart Secret Garden Stickers and Paper Packet.
    • The central White Flower and the small Posies were colored with Stampin’ Blends Markers.  Colors chosen: Central Flower – Light Lemon Lolly and Posies – Light Bubble Bath.
    • Using the Blade Tip with the Take Your Pick Tool, the edges of the Yellow Flower and the Blue Floral Bud were cut.
  • Cross Strip: (4¼” x 1¼”) Basic White cardstock.
    • The sentiment, You Make Me Smile, from the Happy Hibiscus stamp set, an On-Line Exclusive product, was stamped with Boho Blue ink and then dry-embossed with the retired Subtle 3D Embossing Folder.
    • The Cross Strip was slipped under the cut Floral edges.

All elements were adhered to the card base to resemble the sketch and a Pink Floral Sticker from the Secret Garden Packet was added to the Cross Strip

A very pretty card.

  1. When you said your crafting resolution was cutting into pretty paper, you weren’t joking. For this project, you didn’t just cut your paper, you literally cut INTO your paper to create this very cool effect! I love the paper you chose and your colouring technique. To be honest, I really couldn’t tell which flowers you’d coloured and which were part of the paper! Thanks for sharing your crafting resolution with us at As You See It Challenges!

  2. Such a pretty card! I read your resolution and assumed it was fussy cutting to cut out images, but instead you’ve had the brilliant idea of partially cutting them – love the way the flowers now form tabs to hold your central panel. Great idea – thanks for sharing your resolution with us at As You See It

  3. I love the botanical feel of your chosen DSP Jolanda and your creative way of cutting into it – the partial cutting is really effective. This paper is definitely too nice to not be used! Thanks for sharing with us over at As You See It this week!

  6. That’s a great resolution, Jolanda. I need to make that one too – or maybe my resolutions should be just not to buy so much paper! Love this one though – so very pretty and the way you’ve cut and coloured it really makes the most of it. Thanks for joining in with us again at The Paper Players.
