In the Barn – Barn Swallows

Welcome back!  Taking a few minutes to play…

Working with the As you See it (#338) Sketch…

Influenced by: Farm Quest (#66) for what can be found in a barn; Shopping Our Stash (#537) to use something cherished / saved for a special occasion; and sharing with Make My Monday (#241) to add stitching.

I have been holding onto the last few items in the Hugs From Shelli Paper Pumpkin Kit from May 2019.  There were so many pretty elements: Metallic Bird Trinkets, Pretty Peacock Velvet Ribbon, Linen Thread, and very lovely card bases.

Here is the result:

HUGS FROM SHELLI PAPER PUMPKIN KIT MAY 2019 – CHANGING LEAVES – AYSI338 – FQCB66 – SOS537 – MMM241

Steps:

  • Card Base: (8½” x 5½” scored at 4¼”) Very Vanilla cardstock.
  • Accent Mat: (4¼” x 5½”) Very Vanilla cardstock die-cut with the (3¾” x 5⅛”) Rectangle die from the retired Rectangle Stitched Framelits Dies set and then dry-embossed with the retired Timeworn Type 3D Embossing Folder.
  • Frame: (3¼” x 4½”) Early Espresso cardstock.  The Frame Opening was die-cut with the (2¾” x 2¾”) Stitched Square die from the Stylish Shapes Dies set.
  • Focal Image Inset – Birds Nest: Card Base cut in half and trimmed to fit under the Frame (3⅛” x 4⅜”).
    • The image was colored with Stampin’ Blends Markers.  Colors chosen: Nest – Light Wild Wheat and Light Pecan Pie; Foliage – Light Wild Wheat and Light Pretty Peacock; and Eggs – Dark Pool Party and Light Pretty Peacock.
  • Sentiment Strip: Card Base back side trimmed to (4” x ¾”).
    • The sentiment, YOU ARE AMAZING in every single way, from the Changing Leaves stamp set, an On-Line Exclusive Product, was stamped with Early Espresso ink.
  • Top Strip: (4” x ⅜”) Velvet Ribbon cut on the Diagonal.

All elements were adhered to the card base to resemble the sketch.  The Brass Swallow Trinket was added as was a double Linen Thread Bow to complete the card.

A nice dry and often warm spot in the barn rafters for a Swallow’ nest full of eggs. A new beginning…

  1. You’re very clever with the theme, Jolanda!!! I love the barn swallows! YES! I’ve been ‘dive-bombed’ by the adults when mowing at my mom’s farm! There are still lots of structures on the farm and ones that we still call what my maternal grandparents always referred to them!– milk barn or dairy barn, machine shed, sheep barn, chicken coop, etc. Your barn swallows card is delightful! The metal bird accent is terrific and you’ve used the sketch design brilliantly! Thanks for creating and sharing for FarmQuest!!! — Becca

  2. Lovely card, Jolanda! I like the embossed texture and stitching as details. The central image is lovely and I like the rustic colours too. What a fabulous interpretation of the sketch! Thanks for joining in with us this week and throughout the year. Happy Christmas to you and all the best for the New Year. 🙂
