Decorative Trees – Season’s Greetings

Design Team Time: Facebook Case-ing Tuesday (#477) where we CASE (Copy and Selectively Edit) cards found within Stampin’ Up!’s current catalogs.  Today?  The card can be found on page 58 of the Sep – Dec Mini Catalog.

Let me back up…Chicken or Egg…which came first? Over at Jingles Belles (#2418), we are asked to CASE a card from the past. More than 13 years of creativity and I decided to go back to the beginning and selected a card created by Stephanie for the January 28, 2011, blog post first. My take-aways were: Patterned Papers, a Tree, some Bling, Sponging and the suggestion of a Frame created by the color sponging.

So, along comes a color challenge from Just Us Girls (#743) that felt a bit of opulent…choosing Copper for Rust, Gold Foil for the Golden Yellow and a rich Royal Blue tone.   Perfect for a Holiday card!

When looking at today’s card on page 58, if I flipped it to the horizontal, I could see an updated version of Stephanie’s card.

Here is the result:

DECORATIVE TREES BUNDLE – CT477 – JB2418 – JUGS743

Steps:

  • Card Base: (8½” x 5½” scored at 4¼”) Very Vanilla cardstock.
  • Background Panel: (4” x 5¼”) Copper Clay and Gold patterned piece of paper from the retired All About Autumn Specialty Designer Series Paper pack.
  • Frame: (3¾” x 5¼”) Blueberry Bushel cardstock die-cut with the large Hexagon Frame die from the Wildflower Designs Dies set.
  • Frame Inset: (3¾” x 5¼”) Copper Clay, Gold and Very Vanilla Mosaic Tile patterned piece of paper from the same paper pack die-cut with the same die.
  • Shape – Tree: (2½” x 3½’) Blueberry Bushel cardstock die-cut with the Solid Tree die from the Decorative Trees Dies set.
    • Bling: (2” x 3”) Gold Foil die-cut with the Filigree Tree die from the same Dies set.
  • Sentiment Banner: (2¼” x ⅞”) Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper scrap.
    • The sentiment, Season’s Greetings, from the Decorative Trees stamp set was stamped with Blueberry Bushel ink and hand-flagged with Paper Snips.
    • Using a Sponge Dauber, the same color was added to the edges.

All elements: Patterned Paper, Frame, Flagged Greeting, Cut Shape, and Gold Foil Accent (minus Twine) were adhered to the card base to resemble the flipped sketch and Stephanie’s card.  The decorated Tree was popped up with Dimensionals.

A very elegant card. I hope you like it.

Looking forward to seeing how you choose to use the sketch.

  2. Using these colors for a Christmas card was inspired, Jolanda. Copper is a wonderful rust and gold is beautiful on seasonal cards. Thanks for sharing your card with us at Just Us Girls.
