By My Side – Back to School

Welcome back!  A glorious day in the neighborhood…

Going back to school in August, as they do in my neck of the woods, still feels much too early.  However, a few challenges have that as their current theme.  So, let’s play!

Festive Friday (#166) and TGIF (#486) are all about School and the Color Dare (#613) Primary palette is ideal for that theme.  I opted for the Freshly Made (#650) Sketch to bring it all together.

Here is the result:

Steps:

• Card Base: (8½” x 5½” scored at 4¼”) Azure Afternoon cardstock.
• Background Panel: (4⅛” x 5⅜”) Daffodil Delight cardstock.
• Blocks: (3¾” x 1⅝”) Basic Black cardstock.
  • Top Block:
    • The Numbers and Letters dies from the retired Playful Alphabet Dies set were cut from Crushed Curry, Real Red and Azure Afternoon cardstock scraps.
    • The Crushed Curry Ruler Strip (3¾”” x ½”) from the retired Trusty Toolbox Designer Series Paper pack was added along the bottom.
  • Middle Block:
    • Two of the Children images from the retired By My Side stamp set were stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink onto Basic White cardstock scraps and colored with Stampin’ Blends Markers.  Colors chosen: Hair – Light Wild Wheat, SU200, and Bronze; Dress and Shoes – Light and Dark Real Red; Top – Light and Dark Daffodil Delight; and Shorts and Shoes – Light and Dark Azure Afternoon.
    • The Children were fussy-cut with Paper Snips.
  • Bottom Block:
    • The sentiment, You’re the Best, from the Hooray For Surprises stamp set was stamped with White Craft Ink.
    • The Books image from the Bird’s Eye View stamp set, and On-Line Exclusive product, was also stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink onto a Basic White cardstock scrap and colored with the same Stampin’ Blends Markers and fussy-cut with Paper Snips.

All elements were adhered to the card base to resemble the sketch.  The Children were popped up with Dimensionals. 

A fun card to give to a child on the first day of school…provided they are excited about going back!
