Home to Roost – Fall County Fair 4H Competition Entry

Welcome back!  Double Trouble (#148) and alas, the end of my time as September’s Crazy Cousin!

The parameters?  Get Punchy…a white wine spritzer sounds refreshing, doesn’t it!  However, I am sticking to my crafting tools for this one.  An Autumn staple – the Fall County Fair.  A perfect way to get to the “Farm” without going to the “Farm”.  4H competitions…my favorite, the colorful Roosters and Hens.

I chose the Sketch Saturday (#734) for the layout and am sharing with Retro Rubber (#215) for theme and stamp set selection; Heart’s Quest (#38); and of course, I Spy With My Little Eye (#7).

Here is the result:

HOME TO ROOST – TRULY GRATEFUL – LOVELY WISHES – DT148 – SS734 – RRCB215 – HQCB38 – EIS007

Steps:

  • Card Base: (8½” x 5½” scored at 4¼”) Smoky Slate cardstock.
  • Background Panel: (5¼” x 4”) Cherry Cobbler Farm Scene patterned paper from the retired A Day at the Farm Designer Series Paper pack.
  • Banner: (2¾” x 3⅞”) Smoky Slate Chicken Wire patterned piece of paper also from the Day at the Farm Designer Series Paper pack die-cut with the largest Banner die from the retired Banner Framelits Dies set.
  • Focal Square: (2⅝” x 2⅝”) Basic White cardstock cardstock.
    • The Rooster image from the retired Home to Roost stamp set (circa 2019) was stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink.
    • The image was colored with a Blender Pen and Cherry Cobbler, Wild Wheat, Daffodil Delight and Pecan Pie inks.
    • The image was die-cut with the (2⅝” x 2⅝”) Square die from the retired Stitched Shapes Dies set.
  • Decoration – Wheat Sheaf: Basic White cardstock scrap.
    • The Wheat image from the retired Truly Grateful stamp set (circa 2013) was stamped with Pecan Pie ink and colored with a Blender Pen using Wild Wheat and Cherry Cobbler inks.
    • The image was fussy-cut with Paper Snips.
  • Decoration – Circles: Basic White cardstock scraps.
    • Using the Wide-Tipped Water Painter Brush – essentially dry, Cherry Cobbler, Wild Wheat and Smoky Slate inks were brushed in a cross-hatch patten.
    • Circle punches were used to punch out the circles.  Sizes: (1”), (1¼”) and (1½”).
  • Sentiment Circle: The sentiment, You Warm My Heart, from the retired Lovely Wishes stamp set (circa 2018) was stamped with Versamark ink and heat-set with White Embossing Powder on the Cherry Cobbler painted patch before punching with the (1½”) circle punch.

All elements were adhered to the card base to resemble the sketch with both the Sentiment Circle and Wheat Sheaf popped up with Dimensionals.  Additionally, Wild Wheat Textured Ribbon was wrapped around the Background Panel for some interest and color coordination.

A crisp autumn day at the Fall Fair.  Isn’t it nice to cuddle up with a cozy sweater and stroll about?
