August 21st, 2020 – Stampin’ Up!’s Monthly Theme
This week the theme for Simple Stamping is SPOOKY or WHIMSEY – as challenged by Stampin’ Up! for the month of August…

After much consideration, I chose SPOOKY. I rarely make Halloween cards.
Not sure if you are a Paper Pumpkin subscriber…In July, we had the opportunity to purchase the “Summer Nights – Add On” card base / envelope package. Having premade card bases on hand makes Simple Stamping so easy!
I really loved the water colored Night Time Sky’s depicted on these card bases. The dark purple and orange sky seemed perfect for a spooky themed card. For my stamped images, I chose “Life is Beautiful” (154871) for the tree and “Festive Post” (153460) for the sentiment, broom and bats. I like the simplicity of stamping in Black.
Easy
A quick and simple card with a little embossing. All images are stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink (132708). The Basic Black (121045) Flag is hand cut. I used some retired Calypso Coral embossing powder that I had on hand but White (109132), Silver (109131) or Gold (109129) embossing powders would look just as nice. Don’t have embossing powder? The sentiment could easily be stamped directly on the card base in black ink.

Casual – Step Up
To step up this card, I created my own background to match the Summer Night’s card base. I did a quick check and the Summer Night’s – Add On package is no longer available. As I mentioned, I thought is was beautiful. So, I had to re-create it!
Using a Sponge Brayer (141714) and an assortment of Classic Inks, starting lightest to darkest, I brayered and then sponged with a Stampin’ Sponge Wedge (141337) to smooth out any streaks on to a piece of Whisper White card stock (100730) cut to 5½” x 8½” to make two backgrounds at once. The colors I used were: Petal Pink (147108), Calypso Coral (147101), Gorgeous Grape (147099), Rich Razzleberry (147091), Blackberry Bliss (147092) and Night of Navy (147110). I created an alcohol mist with Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint (147044) in a Stampin’ Spritzer (126485) and lightly sprayed the panel. Using a light touch with a Chalk Marker (132133), I added little white dots to the night sky.
Everything else is the same as the Easy card, except I used the Tasteful Labels Dies (152886) to cut the flag. I chose to add the bats and I layered the stamped panel on Basic Black and used a Calypso Coral card base (122925).

Avid – Stepped Up
Everything is the same as the Casual card, except I changed the layout and added texture. The card base is still Calypso Coral, the next layer is Terracotta Tile (150884) embossed with the Tasteful Textures 3D embossing folder (152718). The Basic Black panel is embossed using the Dainty Diamonds 3D (152702) folder. For a little bling, I chose to add some Gold Thread from the Greenery Combo Trim Pack (152475).

Did I hit the mark? Perhaps, my cards are a little bit whimsical in a soft spooky way…
