Welcome back! Wednesday and sneaking in a card before class today (although this post will likely be post class)…
So, Elizabeth over at Paper Players (#743) has challenged us to create a One-Layer card.

I tried my hand by simplifying the Atlantic Hearts (#635) Sketch using the Color Dare (#656) Palette.

Here is the result:

Process:
- Card Base: (8½” x 5½” scored at 4¼”) Basic White cardstock.
- Step (1): I created a Mask by cutting the (3¾” x 5⅛”) Rectangle die from the retired Deckled Rectangles Dies set from a piece of Copy Paper and adhered it to the card front with low-tack tape.
- Step (2): Using a Blending Brush, Pretty Peacock ink was added to the edges of the card front.
- Step (3): The Mask was removed, and I added a bit more Pretty Peacock ink to the upper left and lower right corners.
- Step (4): The original Mask, was die-cut with the (1⅝” x 2⅞”) Arch die from the Everyday Arches Dies set, an On-Line Exclusive product.
- Step (5): The original Mask was set back in place, and Timid Tiger ink was added with another Blending Brush ensuring the card edges were protected.
- Step (6): The Mask was removed again, and the larger (2” x 3¼”) Arch die was die-cut to increase the opening size to allow me to create the Frame.
- Step (7): The original Mask and the smaller Arch Mask were set back, and Petunia Pop ink was added with another Blending Brush.
- Step (8): The two Masks were removed.
- Step (9): From another piece of Copy Paper, the Floral die from the Beautiful Motifs Dies set, was die-cut and used as a Stencil.
- Step (10): With the Stencil in place, Memento Tuxedo Black ink was added with a Sponge Dauber to create the Silhouette and then removed.
- Step (11): The sentiment, Thinking of You, from The Right Words stamp set was also stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink.
One-Layer, No Glue and we are done!
Stenciling creates a nice effect and is a lovely background for the Silhouette Flower.

Jolanda… for a one-layer card, you created so much dimension with your inked layers. Great masking. Thank you so much for sharing your creativity with The Paper Players!

Fantastic work with your masking – the depth of colour really makes it look like it’s layered up

This is an excellent layering illusion Jolanda – even picking up the stitched detail on the central arch. You would really have to look twice to realise this was one layer – bravo! Thanks for tackling our one layer challenge over at The Paper Players this week!
