Wanderlust Postcard

Design Team Time: This round at Cardz 4 Guyz (#364) the theme is Lighthouse and at Hand Stamped Sentiments (#455) we have a Sketch Challenge.  Seemed like a good idea to pair them up!

Influenced by Paper Players (#721) for both Style and Theme and sharing with TGIF (#508) for the “In Art There Are No Rules” Theme.

Here is the result:

VARIETY OF THEMED STAMP SETS – C4G364 – HSSSC455 – PP721 – TGIFC508

Steps:

  • Card Base: (8½” x 5½” scored at 4¼”) Basic White cardstock.
  • Background Panel: (4¼” x 5½”) Basic White cardstock.
    • I selected the Striped Block image from the retired Incredible Like You stamp set and stamped the left and right edges diagonally with Blueberry Bushel ink.
    • I colored every second space with the Dark Real Red Stampin’ White Marker to create an Air Mail motif.
  • Shapes – Postage Stamps: (1½” x 4¼”) Basic White cardstock.
    • The Lighthouse image from the retired Sailing Home stamp set was stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored with Stampin’ Blends Markers.  Colors chosen: Lighthouse Cap and Mid Trim – Dark Real Red; Lighthouse Right Side – Light Blueberry Bushel and Lighthouse Left Side and Ground – Light Smoky Slate.
    • The Lighthouse was then punched into three pieces with the retired (1¼”) Postage Stamp Punch.
    • Each Postage Stamp was edged with Smoky Slate ink applied with a Sponge Dauber for a little definition.
  • Focal Panel – Lighthouse and more: (3¾” x 5½”) Basic White cardstock.
    • The Lighthouse image was stamped again with Memento Tuxedo Black ink.
    • The Postage Stamp pieces were temporarily adhered in place over the top and matching.
    • The Post Card word and the Writing Lines Image from the retired Wanderlust stamp set was stamped with Basic Gray ink and Smoky Slate ink respectively.
    • The Postage Cancel Image from the retired Posted For You stamp set was stamped with Smoky Slate ink as was the Seagull image from the Sailing Home stamp set.
    • With a Fine-Tipped Black Permanent Marker, I added the sentiment “Wish You Where Here!” by hand.

All elements were adhered to the card base to resemble the sketch and the Spotlight Technique Postage Stamps were popped up with Dimensionals

Sending messages, whether by Postcard or Letter, are still delivered by the Postman…and I always wish you can be with me when I travel!

Looking forward to seeing what you will create with the sketch or how you will incorporate a Lighthouse into your design.  Join us at Cardz 4 Guyz and Hand Stamped Sentiments this round.

  2. I love the airmail-style stripes Jolanda – they just scream postage to me! Such a clever way to use the stamp outlines with your lighthouse though too – vert creative and beautifully CAS too. Thanks for sharing with us over at The Paper Players this week – we miss you!

  3. What a clever way to use the postage dies! Great idea. And the airmail stripes down the sides add to that postal/nautical feel. Lovely card, Jolanda. Thanks for sharing with us at The Paper Players.
