Christmas in July – Merry Cafe

The month is winding down and a popular challenge theme is Christmas in July.  So, let’s play!

The challenges: Alphabet (Letter H) for Holidays, Jingle Belles (#2415) Dashing Through the Snow partnering with Double Trouble (#171) to create an Aperture Snow card.

The current Try a Sketch on Tuesday (#651) was perfect for an aperture card!  I selected to tie in the Just Add Ink (#711) Red Coffee Cup from the Inspiration Photo and share with Caffeinated Christmas Coffee (#31) by adding some Stars.

Here is the result:

Steps:

  • Card Base: (8½” x 5½” scored at 4¼”) Basic White cardstock.
  • Background Panel: (5¼” x 4”) Basic White cardstock.
    • The Panel was temporarily adhered to the card front.
    • An aperture was created in the Card Front and the Background Panel using the (2⅛”) Stitched Circle die from the Stylish Shapes Dies set.
    • The sentiment, Christmas Cheer, two stamps from the retired Merry Café stamp set were stamped in the lower right corner with retired Seaside Spray ink.
    • The Panel was then dry-embossed with the Snowflake Sky 3D Embossing Folder and adhered in place.
  • Aperture Frame: (3” x 3”) Seaside Spray retired cardstock die-cut with both the (2⅛”) and (2½”) Stitched Circle dies and adhered in place.
  • Inside Panel: (5” x 3¾”) Basic White cardstock.
    • The Short Snowman image from the Snow Much Fun retired stamp set was stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink as was the sentiment, hope your Christmas is snow much fun.
    • A mask was created by stamping the Snowman again onto a Post-It-Note and then fussy-cut with Paper Snips.
    • With the mask in place, the Christmas Tree image was stamped, also with Memento Tuxedo Black ink minus the little Bird.
    • Additionally, the small Coffee Cup image from the Merry Café stamp set was stamped with Real Red ink into the Snowman’s Hand and the Star image from the retired Festival of Trees stamp set was stamped with Wild Wheat ink to top the Tree.
    • Small details were added by hand using my Fine-Tipped Black Liquid Gel Pen.  I outlined both the Coffee Cup and the Star and added stars to the Cup and dimension to the Star.
    • The scene was colored with Stampin’ Blends Markers.  Colors chosen: Snowman’s Body and Shadow Details – Light Seaside Spray; Nose – Light Pumpkin Pie; Scarf – Light Real Red; Hat – Light Real Red and Shaded Spruce; Buttons and Boots – Light Pebbled Path; Coffee – Light Crumb Cake; Tree – Light and Dark Mossy Meadow, Baubles – Light Wild Wheat; and Tree Trunk – SU200.
    • The Panel was adhered so that the Snowman and his Coffee were visible through the aperture.

And just like a Christmas Gift…all the fun is inside the package (or the card)!

  5. Great winter/Christmas card, I love the idea of a window card. The snowman is beautifully done, and he seems to be more than happy with his coffee in the middle of a snowstorm. I like the CAS layout both inside and outside, and those embossed stars are wonderful. Thanks for joining the Alphabet challenge.

    Hugs, Veronika
