Happy Birthday – Doodled Gifts

Welcome back! So much to do in the House of J to get ready for Christmas, but I couldn’t resist creating a card for couple of afternoon deadlines.

Paper Players (#670) colors with the Sketch Saturday (#740) layout for a #simplestamping card.  Just stamps, ink, paper and a little doodling.

I am also sharing this card with Happy Little Stampers (December) for using Stencils (Decorative Masks) and Color Dare (#579) to use Bold Bright Colors.

Here is the result:

WAVES OF INSPIRATION – ARTISTIC MIX & FOURSQUARE DECO MASKS – PP670 – SS740 0 HLS Stencils Dec 2023 – CD579

Steps:

  • Card Base: (8½” x 5½” scored at 4¼”) Basic Black cardstock.
  • Card Front: (5¼” x 4”) Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper.
    • The Diagonal Strips were lightly penciled in as were the three Gift Boxes.
    • Using the Medium and Large Water Painter Brushes, the colors were added.  The ink was picked up from the Ink Pad Lids.  Colors: Real Red, Tahitian Tide and Melon Mambo.
    • To speed up the drying process, I used the Heat Tool between color application.
    • Once everything was dry, I added Doodles to the scene with my Black Pentel Extra-Fine Tip Liquid Gel Pen.  Defining the Gift Boxes, adding Ribbon & Bows as well as the Diagonal Strips.
    • The Diagonal Strips were decorated with patterns from the Artistic Mix and Foursquare Decorative Masks sets.  Using the Liquid Gel Pen, I traced the patterns.
  • Sentiment Strip: (2¾” x ⅜”) Basic Black cardstock scrap.
    • The sentiment, Happy Birthday, from the Waves of Inspiration stamp set was stamped with Versamark ink and heat-set with White Embossing Powder.

I love water coloring and the sketch design along with the colors felt like a great opportunity to also play around with some doodling and stenciling.

This card also works for these two other Happy Little Stampers December challenges:
