Bird’s Eye View – You Matter

Tuesday – Design time:  Case-ing Tuesday (#417).  Using the Stampin’ Up! Catalog Samples for inspiration and changing none, some or all the elements as you recreate a card is such a great place to start.

Today, I was inspired by the Time Out (#242) theme of Fairy Tales.

A little story called: “The Three Little Birds” by the Brother’s Grimm.

Three children were born to a King, two boys and a girl.  Each was “drowned” by the Queen’s sisters who were unable to have children.  As each child was tossed, a bird flew forth and sang a little prophecy.  However, the children were rescued by a Fisherman and his wife and brought up as their own.  The sisters told the King lies regarding his children and their mother, the Queen.  He became upset and angry and banished the Queen to prison.

When the children reached adulthood, they each ventured forth to find their true parents.  On her journey, the daughter met a woman who sent her along with a bit of magic and she completed the necessary tasks and subsequently freed a Prince from a curse.  As she and the prince travelled back toward home, she found her brothers.  They too, had been unsuccessful in finding their parents so, they all went home together.

When one of the son’s was hunting in the King’s Woods, he was questioned and said he was the Fisherman’s son.  The King knew that the Fisherman had no children.  The son invited him back and with the help of the little birds, the truth was told.  They all returned to the castle.  The Queen was released from prison and the sisters met their end.  The daughter marries the prince.  Happily, ever after…

“The Three Little Birds” teaches valuable lessons about the consequences of one’s actions. It reflects the belief in a moral universe where good deeds are rewarded, and evil actions are punished. The tale also emphasizes the importance of inner beauty and compassion over superficial appearances.

Here is the result:

BIRD’S EYE VIEW – SOMETHINK FANCY – CT417 – TOC242

Steps:

  • Card Base: (8½” x 5½” scored at 4¼”) Very Vanilla cardstock.
  • Background Panel: (4¼” x 5½) Small Leaf patterned piece of paper from the Inked Botanicals Designer Series Paper pack.
  • Accent Mat: (3⅞” x 3¾”) Lost Lagoon cardstock.
  • Focal Panel: (3¾” x 3½”) Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper, Memento Tuxedo Black ink and Bird’s Eye View stamp set.
    • The Branch, Leaf and Bird images were stamped.
    • The top Bird was stamped onto a piece of Window Sheet and pressed in place for the reversed or mirror stamping technique.
    • The scene was colored with Stampin’ Blends Markers.  Colors selected: Small Birds – Light Pool Party and Lost Lagoon; Larger Bird – Light Petal Pink, Calypso Coral and Pool Party;  Bird Beaks – Daffodil Delight; Branches – Ivory and Light Pecan Pie; and Leaves – Dark Soft Sea Foam and Light Lost Lagoon.
    • The truncated sentiment, you matter, from the Something Fancy stamp set was inked with the Lost Lagoon Stampin’ Write Marker.  A little additional shading was added with the Fine-Tipped Pentel Liquid Gel Pen.

All elements were adhered to the Background Panel to resemble the sketch.  Keeping it simple and letting the color and the patterned paper be enough.
