Off to the Sea to Swim with the Fish

Welcome back! Thursday and a few challenges that are pending…how does that happen?  Never enough time in the day to get everything you want/need to get done.

Over at TGIF (#422) the challenge is what would you do with a Navy background?  Me?  I went to the Sea.  Over at Tic Tac Toe (#210), I selected the bottom row – a Die Cut, an Ombre effect and a Shape.  Bringing all of those elements together, I selected the Paper Players (#642) sketch.

Here is the result:

SEA LIFE DIES – BY THE SEA DSP – FREE AS A BIRD – TGIFC422 – TTTC210 – PP642

Steps:

  • Card Base: (8½” x 5½” scored at 4¼”) Smoky Slate cardstock.
  • Background Panel: (4” x 5¼”) Night of Navy and Silver Wave patterned piece of paper from the now retired By the Bay Designer Series Paper pack.
  • Rectangle Accent Mat: (2⅛” x 3⅝”) Smoky Slate cardstock.
  • Focal Panel: (2” x 3½”) Blue Toned Ombre patterned piece of paper also from the By the Bay Designer Series Paper pack.
  • Cross Strip – Sentiment: (5” X 1½”) Vellum.
    • The sentiment, The world needs more of you, from the retired Free as a Bird stamp set was stamped with Versamark ink and heat set with Silver Embossing Powder.
    • The Strip edges were torn.
  • Shape: (4” x 3½”) Brushed Silver cardstock, that I still have in my stash, die-cut with the Goldfish die from the retired Sea Life Dies set.

All elements were adhered to the card base to resemble the sketch.  The Vellum strip was wrapped around the Background Panel and the Fish was popped up with Dimensionals.

I like how this card turned out.  The message and the blue coloring lean toward the masculine and this would make it a great Father’s Day card.

Thank you for spending some of your time with me today.   Cheers,  Jolanda!

  2. Jolanda the design composition of your card is fantastic! The ripped vellum echoes the swirls of the background and the fabulous fish diecut makes for a great focal point. Thanks for sharing with us over at The Paper Players this week!
