Happy Spring – Weekend Theme Challenge – Spring Showers

This week’s Weekend Challenge to keep you stamping is a theme based.  The image I chose is evocative of the adage: April Showers bring May Flowers.  Take from it what you will.  Be inspired by the image and/or the colors.  Have fun with it!

I chose the sketch layout for the Stampin’ Up! Only Challenge #272 which asked you to choose a sample from the catalog and case it.  The new catalog is in the house and I selected a card from page 28.  You will have to wait until May 4th to see which card but it is a perfect sketch for my image.

I also chose to use the colors suggested by The Spot Challenge #156.  I swapped out Pear Pizzazz with Soft Seafoam and added Purple Posy to keep the card tonally balanced.

Here is what I created…

COUNTRY HOME – DRAGONFLY GARDEN – TIMELESS TULIPS – WEEKEND CHALLENGE – SUO #272 – THE SPOT #156

Sketch (Card) Elements:

Card Base: (8½” x 5½” scored @ 4¼”) Basic White

Background Panel: (4” x 5¼”) Purple Posy cardstock dry embossed with the Ornate Floral 3D Embossing Folder.

Mat Panel: (2¾” x 3⅞”) Calypso Coral patterned piece of Butterfly Bijou Designer Series Paper.  I like how the dots suggest rain.

Focal Point (2½” x 3⅝”) Basic White.  The Flower image from the Dragonfly Garden stamp set was selectively inked with the Smoky Slate Stampin’ Write Marker and stamped on to a rectangle of cardstock.  The Watering Can from the Country Home stamp set was also stamped in Smoky Slate ink on to a scrap of cardstock.  A variety of Stampin’ Blends were used to color the images.  The Watering Can was colored with the light Highland Heather with a little light Smoky Slate shading and then fussy cut.

Allowing for the Watering Can and the Flowers, the rectangle was then die-cut with one of the scalloped frames from the Stitched So Sweetly Dies that fit the size of the image. The Flowers were colored with Calypso Coral and So Saffron.  The Poke Grass with Mint Macaron and the Leaves and Stems with Mossy Meadow.  The background was colored with light Soft Seafoam.

The Watering Can was adhered in place and the focal panel was adhered to the Designer Series Paper.  A (⅛”) hole was punched in the top left corner and the White Crinkle Ribbon was wrapped from behind the Purple Posy panel and threaded through the hole and tied into a bow.  Dots of Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue were added to affix the matted panel in place ensuing the ribbon was straight.

The completed panel was adhered to the card base.

The sentiment, Happy Spring, is from the Timeless Tulips stamp set.  Only the phrase, Happy Spring, was inked with the Basic Gray Stampin’ Write Marker and stamped on to another scrap of Basic White cardstock and then die-cut with the mini label die from the Stitched So Sweetly Dies.

A sweet Spring card created for a friend. Do you like it?

  1. Loving the layout of your card Jolanda and swapping the pear pizzazz with soft seafoam, and using the purple posy cardstock kept the card very soft looking. Really like the coloured rectangle background really finishes the look of the card off, and yes you’re right the dotty paper does make you think of rain! Thankyou so much for taking part in the SUO challenge hope to see you on the next one x Natalie
